IVP Indonesia at Bhumi Horta Foundation collaborated with IAAS Diponegoro University to organize a one-day voluntary work with the Plalangan urban farmer community located in Semarang, Central Java. IASS, or the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences, is the world’s largest student association in the field of agriculture and related sciences. The activity, called “Back to Awarenviro,” has been held on Saturday, May 31st, 2025.

The activities are divided into two parts. In the beginning, Sany, as a sustainable garden practitioner, explained the layering of nutrients, also known as Hugel Beds, to be implemented in their garden. The second part was voluntary work at the garden along with the local communities. The whole idea of introducing this way of gardening was to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable farming implementation.
The activity aimed to introduce the method of making plant beds without harming nature. The community and volunteers learned how we could integrate composting activity and planting in the same area. The other objective was to introduce our local group, who are going to be placed in this area for a long-term program. This local is also the place where the June work camp, named Sendangguwo Permaculture Camp, is going to be held from 6 – 19 July 2025.
