The Bhumi Horta Foundation was founded on April 22, 2014, on the same day as Earth Day. The organization promotes sustainable agriculture that applies permaculture principles in home-based farm scale to industrial scale farms in urban areas, or in buffer areas. To achieve this target, the Bhumi Horta Youth Learning Center was created in order to achieve this goal by organizing small classes and workshops for the younger generation. Youth and children will take part in learning activities using non-formal methods. Gardening activities are one of the activities that must be followed because through gardening activities the young generation can learn many things from various different scientific subjects.
Volunteers will support activities at the Bhumi Horta Learning Center. This location is also known as our base camp. The three activity centers are Bhumi Horta Base Camp in Pedurungan sub-district, Konco Tani Garden in Sendangguwo village, Temblang sub-district, and Kebun Qita in South Semarang District. At the Bhumi Horta Learning Center, volunteers will help the children’s learning process, especially in English class, and carry out urban farming activities with neighbours and local youth. Volunteers will run a community farming program to support local residents in providing their own food. Volunteers will work along with local youth to do some activities such as seeding, plant maintenance, making farming installations, making organic fertilizer, planting to harvesting. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to train children and youth in English language and cultural exchange activities.
