Peace Across the Sea Online Training Course, interim Report

With the assistance of funding from Service Civil International (SCI), a wonderful training program was devised and carried out. Throughout July, we hosted the Peace Across the Sea, a weekly online training, bringing together 20 participants—10 from Australia and 10 from Indonesia. Tanaman timun (Cucumis sativus) merupakan salah satu komoditas hortikultura penting yang banyak dibudidayakan di Indonesia. Timun tergolong dalam famili Cucurbitaceae dan memiliki karakteristik batang menjalar, daun berbulu lebar, serta buah silindris berwarna hijau dengan kandungan air yang tinggi. Timun sangat cocok tumbuh di daerah dengan suhu hangat (25–30°C), intensitas cahaya tinggi, dan tanah yang gembur serta kaya bahan organik. Selain itu, timun juga memiliki nilai ekonomis tinggi dan masa panen yang relatif cepat, yaitu 35–45 hari setelah tanam. Gulma adalah tanaman yang tumbuh tidak diinginkan, karena bersaing dengan tanaman utama untuk memperoleh cahaya matahari, air, ruang, dan unsur hara. Kehadirannya dapat menghambat pertumbuhan tanaman budidaya dan menurunkan hasil panen. Namun, di sisi lain, gulma juga bisa dijadikan indikator alami bagi petani untuk memahami sifat dan kualitas tanah di kebunnya. Dengan mengenali ciri umum gulma, cara membedakannya dari tanaman utama, serta memahami contoh gulma yang sering muncul di kebun, petani dapat mengambil langkah pengelolaan yang lebih bijak dan efisien. Ciri-ciri gulma antara lain memiliki siklus hidup pendek namun agresif, akar menjalar, dan morfologi kasar seperti daun bergerigi atau batang berbulu. [...]
